A Chlorine-Free Swimming Pool Build
For this project, we visited a refurbished Oxfordshire farmhouse to create a 10x5m outdoor pool that would serve as the centrepiece of the landscape. The design needed to blend traditional Cotswold stonework and natural planting with clean, minimalist structures, creating a harmonious flow between the farmhouse, pool, and surrounding terraces. The client desired a sophisticated, understated aesthetic, with deep turquoise water that compliments the natural stone without dominating the landscape.
The Design and Construction
To realise the client’s vision, we used reinforced concrete block construction for long-term durability. The finish is a porcelain tile selected to mimic Belgian blue limestone, a dense, dark stone with light fossils and flecks.
Practicality and comfort were equally important. The pool features an automatic slatted cover for safety and maintenance, air source heating for year-round enjoyment, and mineral water filtration to maintain crystal-clear, chemical-free water. Every detail, from tile selection to pool edges, was carefully considered to ensure seamless integration with the landscape and farmhouse aesthetics.
Client Feedback
The client was thrilled with the result. They particularly appreciated the reflective quality of the water and the effortless integration with the farmhouse and surrounding stone terraces. The automatic cover and mineral filtration have made maintenance simple, allowing the pool to remain inviting and safe throughout the year.
The positive collaboration led to a second project with the same client, where we are currently building another natural swimming pool at a new development in Cornwall.
